In my arms, your arms,
You talk, then I talk,
But that life is long gone.

For a list of things you are:
Love of fine art, Love of my arms,
Love for my mom,
Love, from wild mobs,
Hate for me deep in your heart.

Does that, to you, seem honest?
Pleas, bargains,
Over t-shirts, waterbottles,
Street artist and colleagues,
In trap houses on Mary.

Does that, to you, seem honest?
They sleep under pizza boxes,
Can never play in concert.

For a list of things you are:
Nothing like you were,
Nothing in your arms,
Nothing for the club,
Nothing from your heart.

Dry fog, fight songs,
In my arms, your arms,
You talk, then I talk,
But that life is long gone,
A dry cough on a live vlog.

What was it I lost?
The right to be what I was?
The fight to be what I'm not?

From my thoughts: Fuck off.
For a list of things you are:
Love of fine art, Love of my arms,
Love for my mom,
Love, from wild mobs,
Hate for me deep in your heart.

Does that, to you, seem honest?
Pleas, bargains,
Over t-shirts, waterbottles,
Street artist and colleagues,
Live in trap houses on Mary St.

Does that, to you, seem honest?
They sleep under pizza boxes,
Drunks, who can never play in concert,
What was it I lost again?
The right to be what I was?
To fight to live and die on a cross,
Live life on a cot?

Instead, I'll climb the hill to the top.

Dance steps, Alarms set,
Ten ten to ten to ten,
Best friends, resume routine,
Best friends, concerts again.

Leg lift, foot stamp, deep bend,
Ten ten to ten to ten,
Ten ten to ten to ten,
Dreams about drumkits,
Twenty minutes of bliss,
Then again, sleep in my bed.

Where does the red end?
Bench press, breath test,
Desk chair, ceiling fan:
You hope to get to live again.
Jump rope, feeling breasts,
Best friends, sleeping bags.

Then into the night, like assent...
That's a life you never lived.

Town by town, you lay a brick,
Build a house, inhale a bit.
Where, from does cedar sprout?
Far away from shit like this.
How are you about playing music?

Cedar necks, hands tight around,
Beating skin, women. Beans again,
Upon a page then: demons, hell.

What is a stranger, to a friend?
Follower, liar, charlatan,
I would never knew, you were never there.

I'm sorry, I fell asleep,
Black, eyes see, I feel...
Yellow, what can ever be?
Like a child, I dream... of,
Yellow, saffron, cream,
White outside yellow.

Like an egg, given life,
Tell us, what should it be?
Just like rust on the beach,
Yellow, contained in white?
I'm sorry, I fell asleep...

What of the darkness?
You still sleep at night,
Despite what you speak,
Yellow, what is it you see?

I'm sorry, I fell asleep.
I cannot be there, I feel...
Yolk: mustard, garlic,
Like darkness inside me,
White on the outside,
Bizarre shades, and yellow.

Compare deceased, compare diseases,
Civil registry, never ending dreams.
Quiet, discontented tree:
Questions vex me silent,
Why do we drink of selfish need?
Why do we eat to reddish green?
Why do they scream your scaring me,
While I achieve new levels of self deceit?
It responds, about roots and leaves,
Tools and people, fools and fees.
It's beyond me to understand.

Again indeed.

Only man writes with a pen,
Ire infinite, to the final syllable.
A point most misunderstand:
Life is not miracles, appearances,
Science fiction or analyzing images,
It's mostly the wheres and whens,
Indeeds said again, friends you miss.
Like all the pyramids get built,
You'll find they went brick by brick.
Like kids, chimes in the wind,
Ideally they play without worry,
Not re-examine life endlessly,
Like a firing squad that never hits.
Like a chime without another,
It takes only one to be lonely,
Two people to live.

Hair recedes, favour leaves,
Ferris wheels and screams,
Once again, the tree speaks,
This time about seasons,
Blues and greens,
Views and seeds,
You open your own mouth, freely,
Someone else's dreams.
Again indeed.
A mirror responds vaguely,
Instead of self reflection sees,
Things that terrify,
Even when they close their eyes and they sleep.

One could compare their life to a sheep,
Sheppard, or favoured elite.
What one eats someone decides,
Where one sleeps someone else decides,
Who one sees is limited, they cry.
But they compare to a bar too high.
Then with their time, belies, nevers, freezes.
Feelings of timidness, cheapness, lies,
Triangles you hope to avoid thinking,
Inevitably though you need drink.
You need some chips, think about it.
You need a horse to ride to the store,
Because you're lazy as shit.
So I guess just hope for the best,
But also go for it.

Again, Indeed.

Young men see visions, Old men have dreams,
His mind was troubled and he could not sleep.

Body smeared in honey,
Head to feet, conceit,
Meant to be supreme,
Yet not even complete.
The sea, is free, comparably,
Considering the moon, destiny.
When you speak, Where you sleep,
To others, it matters only where you scream.
Meant to be, it's a funny thing,
Next movie I hope you're next to me.

Wild marjoram, fine novelists,
Five dollar words, trite violins,
Telling simple lies, promises.
Yet when I saw the world,
My heart stopped again,
Eyes on a third of my providence.

The wind whispers to my skin,
It's like it speaks with every breath.
As if it has been calling out for my presence,
Waiting to see the face behind this mask.
So far it has shown nothing but disdain,
And I wonder if I have anything left to give.

In darkness I wander,
With nothing but my memories
Falling, falling, falling.
Where once I saw light now lies only gloom,
And I know that it has gone.
For those who wish for rest, I have none
Though I'd give up what I have, for one more.
But it's too much now, I can't move my hands,
I just want to sleep...
(My memory, it fades)
In the dark, with nothing to grasp,
The memories that I hold so dear
Fall away from me like they were never there.
And I feel as though I will fall into madness,
Like the very world is crumbling beneath my feet,
That everything is crashing down,
I fear I cannot stand the weight.
(I'm fading)
I just want to sleep...
(My memory, it fades)
***
I'm afraid I've gone and made a fool out of myself again,
I knew you wouldn't understand my reason,
And now you're not talking to me at all,
You see I didn't mean to let your memory fade,
It's like I was being pulled away by another force,
Something I didn't mean, something I can't control,
I don't even know why I'm still here...
I don't know why I'm still here.
I should leave this place, I know it's wrong,
I shouldn't be here in your mind,
I can't help the way that I am,
I don't know why I'm Super Mundane,
I can't stop feeling so low,
I'm afraid it's already too late.

I didn't mean to let you slip away,
But the thought of losing you just doesn't sit right,
To keep you awake and alive,
I need you here, I'm not alone,
Without you here with me I can't go on,
I don't know why I'm Super Mundane,
I don't know why I'm still here.
I didn't mean to let you slip away,
I just can't shake this feeling,
That something inside of me is broken,
I don't know why I'm Super Mundane,
I don't know why I'm still here.

here i lie (not yet asleep)
in my childhood bedroom (my soul to keep)
under my childhood quilt (made by my grandmother)
holding my childhood cat (could there by any other?)
and listening
to the cicadas cry over (mourn)
the loss of my sister (come morn)
when she moves away (just to our college town)
into her tiny, adulthood dorm (someday to wear a cap and gown)
with her adulthood newfound friends(i thought it was just the four of us)
and her adulthood future portends (why couldn't it have always been the four of us?)
and listening
to her professors drone on (just like the cicada)
as she compiles reports, and essays, in jargon (raw data)
and-
and-
and i wonder, will she miss me too?

One last deal, a man's feet,
Glass sharp as steel,
Half free, half demand,
Protect land from the sea.

Footing, Looking up,
Good enough, discuss,
Bullshit words, wooden result.
All I can see is the head:
Bad feeling in the bed,
If only I could fold my hands,
Lean, sleep and dream.
The chaos I would see.

Winters of sleep,
a white canvas,
broken dreams,
cut sharp like shards of glass.

Day-blush,
but graceless
eyes wide opened,
anxious and helpless.

Raindrops on the glass,
hangover, reality, facts,
as the window cracks,
distant memories of what once was.

Beauty, all its mystery,
Maybe this is all a dream,
Belief instinctively,
Anger, or misery,
Or is it grief within me?

Imagine living, symptom-free,
Imagine, breathing with relief,
Instead coughing and wheezing,
Sleeping with vivid dreams,
While sleeping in the street.

A body smeared with honey,
Head to feet, conceit,
Declared supreme,
Yet not even complete.

A treasure full of dreams
A future wrapped in gold
What our indecisions bring
Within each box that life will hold

Hidden in the square
Amongst the corrugated seams
Is more than just thin air
And the light from distant beams

There are memories we have known
Within the box that cannot part
Like the flowers that have grown
Just to touch a gentle heart

Upon these feathers within a box
I shall sleep on them tonight
And to the ticking of the clock
I shall dance the angel’s flight

Says the label dressed in red,
“Never touch what’s in the box”
So many thoughts run through my head
Of all the moments we have lost

what sleeps in the forest beside the highway?
what lays its small head on dismembered takeout boxes and curls up beneath plastic bags emblazoned with ‘thankyouthankyouthankyou’?

does it give thanks for small polyurethane luxuries?
for the refuse it calls its refuge?

what feeds on the grease and fumes from the roaring mechanical parade?
does it lick its lips afterwards?

what learns to cross the glimmering cement - first timidly, then wanton and triumphant after practice?

what watches?

what does it notice?

what emerges from the forest beside the highway, large and lumbering, to repay the generosity of its benefactors in kind?

sitting on the red couch eating rice and beans straight from the pot the rice is undercooked and toothy it sticks to my spine it burns my throat picking around green peppers while the south winter sun runs through the window and reflects off the floor and is blinding bright it burns my eyes it doesn’t feel warm at all despite the two pairs of socks and layered shirts and oh

i’m so tired.

might just.

wrap up in a blanket

and go to sleep.

Debbie downer of many outcomes,
Money protected against downturns,
Fathered from powerful maelstroms,
Freshly showered out of sleep,
What is deep? What is to and from,
Blue sea, who flowers their queen,
Without a penny, empty bellied,
'You let them down, son'
Sour cherries, as he devours many
Let them down yourself, please,
Out of envy, twenty thousand leagues.

Warning: this is looooooong and if you’re a sensitive individual the first parts may bother you. But hopefully the last part will inspire you. Speak your truths friends. The ones who matter will love you all the harder. #worldmentalhealthday

Hidden Stories

They smiled, jokingly told her
she looked tired,
“Must’ve partied hard last night.”
Smile quietly returned,
“just didn’t sleep too well I guess.”
She didn’t tell them how hard it was to get out of bed this morning,
How sleep never came last night,
How it felt like the darkness would just swallow her whole,
How she felt hollow and empty
and there weren’t any tears left,
just an ache deep within
that wouldn’t subside.
And maybe if she just squeezed her eyes shut and stayed in that bed
in the blacked out void,
She wouldn’t have to face another day of faked smiles and “I’m ok” lies.
“Just tired today I guess.”

“It’s warm today man!”
“What’s with the long sleeves all the time?”
“Got some crazy tattoos under there?”
He smiled, laughed along with them,
Self-consciously ran his hands
over his wrists.
Over the bandages binding his secrets.
They didn’t know how close he got last night, how he almost let go,
How so much blood, HIS blood
swirled down the drain,
mixing with his tears.
He was sure no one would miss him, but he wondered if he would miss this world,
And the good days out in the sun,
Few and far between as they were.
What would they say if he were gone tomorrow?

“You should’ve come out with us last night. You would’ve had so much fun...”
She nodded and made those
“next time” promises,
though she knew they were lies.
She’d stay home again,
Wrapped in the icy grips of loneliness,
Which felt somehow better
than her burning cheeks
when the right words just wouldn’t come, or the wrong ones spilled out,
and she felt their eyes on her,
Panic rising, thoughts frozen
Wishing she’d just stayed home,
Away from the judgement,
And all the wrong moves she always made

“Haven’t seen you around in a while! Doing ok?”
His mouth smiled, head nodded,
lips formed words he’d said so often, automatic.
Because, really, he thought,
How could I describe
that moment last night,
body curled up with forehead cold
against the kitchen floor,
Ears covered to block out the voices,
Silent screams wracking his body as the panic overwhelmed him,
No breath to speak,
And who could he call anyway,
How would he explain these moments of pure fear that slipped in unnoticed
and become everything, took everything, until he was a shivering shell of himself.
Sometimes he wondered,
if they could see through him,
would they think him weak?
Would they walk away...?

These people are all make-believe,
but the experiences are not,
taken from articles and discussions
and sometimes even revelations from
real-life friends.
These are not my stories,
but they are someone’s truths,
Not their weakness,
Not their short-lived sadness
that they can just “get over” if you try hard enough to make them happy.
(My gosh do I need to remind myself of that part sometimes...)

But that doesn’t mean you stop trying.
Love them y’all.
Love them so damn much that you’ll sometimes break through the cracks in their self-inflicted armor.
Listen to them,
Give them the chance to be
open and honest,
And if what they say makes you flinch, imagine what it must feel like for them.
Do something kind that makes them smile and get ready to do it again tomorrow.
Smile and laugh with them. Cry with them.
Be genuine with your
thoughts and feelings.
Give them space, but check on them.
Pull them out of the dark for just a moment, say,
“I’m here for you when you need me.
And I always will be.”

Mental health issues are often invisible,
but still feel debilitating to the one
inside that head.
Stay educated.
Be understanding.
Love the hell out of each other.

Throw back the covers on
the incessant redundancy
of another day.
Putting in time for a world
we no longer believe in,
if ever we truly did.
...Them rose-tinted glasses
were long-ago shattered...
Our dedication repaid
With more stolen hours

Coming home with less time
To spend with ourselves,
Or perhaps those we purposely
surround ourselves with,
Than we’ll spend talking to ceiling tiles
in the dark later on.
Droning away the limited hours,
The constant pull of a thumb ,
—Refreshing—
Giving our ❤️s away
In an opinionated match game

Finger-fucking ourselves to sleep
Just to say we felt alive
Before succumbing to darkness
With a see-you-later sayonara
Whispered into black,
Just like the onyx air pixels
we’ll be counting later
to lure heavy eyelids
back into a much-too-finite slumber
...Or maybe the fluffy white bastards
will do the trick
Whatever helps you sleep at night...

Next day, the inbox the same,
Full of spam mail we unsubscribed to
ages ago
That somehow keeps rearing ugly heads, hydra-like
with a pretty new name every time,
to keep us believing in the possibility
that this particular lovesick prince
will be our salvation.
DELETE to clear our foggy heads
While trying to remember
which ones are the liars.
The mirage keeps on shifting.

Repeat, repeat,
World keeps on turning,
pulling us along,
A child’s toy on a string.

But what if, for a moment,
We turn away from from the
unending axial spins,
Sidestep the scythe again,
seek out the sunrise...
Find the beauty brave souls!
Crack open that Earth-shaped geode and search out the wild world within

And you know what...
Go buy you a new pair
of those pretty pink shades
