“Writers
———————-
Have gentle souls
Have a heart of a sunshine
The one written word they paint
From their lives with each brush in their hands

The good times
The bad times
The treasured of times
Their words are best told
From its beginning to no ending

They paint each season
They create each reason
They form each line
As they stand even at the bus line
As they wait for their train to arrive
As they drive their car they must stop
At the parking stop and quickly write
Otherwise they will lose their track of
Song they want to sing”

Warning: this is looooooong and if you’re a sensitive individual the first parts may bother you. But hopefully the last part will inspire you. Speak your truths friends. The ones who matter will love you all the harder. #worldmentalhealthday

Hidden Stories

They smiled, jokingly told her
she looked tired,
“Must’ve partied hard last night.”
Smile quietly returned,
“just didn’t sleep too well I guess.”
She didn’t tell them how hard it was to get out of bed this morning,
How sleep never came last night,
How it felt like the darkness would just swallow her whole,
How she felt hollow and empty
and there weren’t any tears left,
just an ache deep within
that wouldn’t subside.
And maybe if she just squeezed her eyes shut and stayed in that bed
in the blacked out void,
She wouldn’t have to face another day of faked smiles and “I’m ok” lies.
“Just tired today I guess.”

“It’s warm today man!”
“What’s with the long sleeves all the time?”
“Got some crazy tattoos under there?”
He smiled, laughed along with them,
Self-consciously ran his hands
over his wrists.
Over the bandages binding his secrets.
They didn’t know how close he got last night, how he almost let go,
How so much blood, HIS blood
swirled down the drain,
mixing with his tears.
He was sure no one would miss him, but he wondered if he would miss this world,
And the good days out in the sun,
Few and far between as they were.
What would they say if he were gone tomorrow?

“You should’ve come out with us last night. You would’ve had so much fun...”
She nodded and made those
“next time” promises,
though she knew they were lies.
She’d stay home again,
Wrapped in the icy grips of loneliness,
Which felt somehow better
than her burning cheeks
when the right words just wouldn’t come, or the wrong ones spilled out,
and she felt their eyes on her,
Panic rising, thoughts frozen
Wishing she’d just stayed home,
Away from the judgement,
And all the wrong moves she always made

“Haven’t seen you around in a while! Doing ok?”
His mouth smiled, head nodded,
lips formed words he’d said so often, automatic.
Because, really, he thought,
How could I describe
that moment last night,
body curled up with forehead cold
against the kitchen floor,
Ears covered to block out the voices,
Silent screams wracking his body as the panic overwhelmed him,
No breath to speak,
And who could he call anyway,
How would he explain these moments of pure fear that slipped in unnoticed
and become everything, took everything, until he was a shivering shell of himself.
Sometimes he wondered,
if they could see through him,
would they think him weak?
Would they walk away...?

These people are all make-believe,
but the experiences are not,
taken from articles and discussions
and sometimes even revelations from
real-life friends.
These are not my stories,
but they are someone’s truths,
Not their weakness,
Not their short-lived sadness
that they can just “get over” if you try hard enough to make them happy.
(My gosh do I need to remind myself of that part sometimes...)

But that doesn’t mean you stop trying.
Love them y’all.
Love them so damn much that you’ll sometimes break through the cracks in their self-inflicted armor.
Listen to them,
Give them the chance to be
open and honest,
And if what they say makes you flinch, imagine what it must feel like for them.
Do something kind that makes them smile and get ready to do it again tomorrow.
Smile and laugh with them. Cry with them.
Be genuine with your
thoughts and feelings.
Give them space, but check on them.
Pull them out of the dark for just a moment, say,
“I’m here for you when you need me.
And I always will be.”

Mental health issues are often invisible,
but still feel debilitating to the one
inside that head.
Stay educated.
Be understanding.
Love the hell out of each other.
❤️🧡💛💚💙💜🖤🤍🤎💗

”The End”

The night is young,
Barely swollen with stars
When the illusion shatters

As though everyone I had ever known
was gone
The world as I had come to know it,
Ended.
Apocalyptic,
And without near enough warning.

Those paper souls lost,
Their memories fast fading,
The stories they told,
Words lost in the wind
Some names forgotten,
Others stamped permanently
onto my brain,
autographs on my heart.

I reminisced for a moment
On the places we’d been,
Conversations had,
Friendships shared,
Hardships weathered.

Bright sunny days spent outside
Or solitary nights spent avoiding sleep,
Blanketed by the silent words between us,
Alone but for each other’s company.

Now I just feel alone, utterly,
This finality staring me in the face
Nothing left to do but face this music
Slipping away at too rapid a pace
These final notes,
One last embrace.

I tell myself I must accept this end,
But allow myself one backward look
Steel my heart,
Heave a sigh,
And with great trepidation...

close this book.

Books opens, pictures,
Bulldozer, fixtures,
Foot soldier of bitterness,
Do good moments wither?

Pull over, hood open,
Notice you could use a push,
Look to the wool-grower,
Whose home you turned to dust,
Hopeless with his heritage lost.

Is a cactus cost-effective?
Is an organ, mostly defective,
Less than nothing?
Ask a cleric, politician or elective,
At best, they repeat what they must.

The sun begins to set in the horizon
I muster up the courage to walk like royalty
With a few hours of rest, I think I am ready.
Heart beats fast, hands are sweaty
My brain feels like a time bomb.
How do you get ready when you're not ready at all?
Standing like a scarecrow
I'm the one getting scared
Why did you have to choose me?
I just want to curl up or even flee.
No one else seems to relate
I must survive this time.
As I leave, the moon begins its work.
That's it for today.
Tomorrow calls for another chance.

Sidewalks broken on my boulevard,
Auburn hair where I used to walk,
Talk, and think of her dialogue.
I'd thought greenery would fall,
Replaced with concrete barriers,
Perhaps I'd talked too freely,
Told one too many tale too tall
To still be taken seriously.
Discreet forever, words picky,
Discrete for ever, world sticky,
Disformity for even worms licking.
Take me away from this place,
For even screaming and kicking,
Seeing worse, feeling indignant.
Not to curse the growing infant,
But the plants must go.
No handlebars rusted,
To bikes comprised of broken dreams,
No van full of children hopeful,
Just a van to the hospital, please,
My heart is about to explode to pieces.

She writes fallacies of nobody,
Highlights for her hair color,
Callously she laughs with glee,
Ire beauty and young bravery.
Screaming in doorways sobriety,
I like to think she knows me not.
Picking flowers from her yard,
Policy alike her start, mother,
Discovering what to be, rather,
Honesty like her heart, lover,
It beats nobody clever. Until.

Forgive my desires: two stepping.
Your teacup leaking, I laugh still.
Sieve steeping, a living actress,
And to live needing? is this banter?
Definition in short order, leaving.
For give my empires to Stephen,
An idea more Corey than Cancer.
A ballet dancer, but a thick boy,
Holes among left awood with joy,
Man ideal for lawyers and cantors,
For one who teaches is forgotten,
Cotton tarnished in an oily oil.
Royalty royal and parched to often,
His voice softens, off his head,
For I too seek enjoyment, spread.

Whatever they do find
With whomever
I don't mind
Though I don't believe
They must be alien
I lost time
Swear I'm not blind
I look and see
Words in the breeze
Tongue-tied
They oft-lie
Telling tales of talking trees
Ghosts will moan
Beg and plead
Selling rhymes
But not this guy
Not Today
I don't got time
Not for pizza
Not for pie
Not for holding others up
Just to drop them when I die
Today I built a shelf
So they can sit there when I'm gone
Thinking about nothing
While they listen to my songs

I have a shelf of books, all ashes.
My most disastrous,
Poetically immaculate.
Writing of real life intangibles,
Kissing a boy by the shore,
While the crowd screams more.
That's the 21st century, man,
Progress a little beyond books of ash,
Paper plates and cheques for cash,
Beyond are spaceship parts beneath trash.

If Etan must, they probably may have done,
So if May is upon, another spring comes,
Against a flower one cannot lean butt,
Especially with the shadow cast cut across.

Don't show up at the poetry contest,
Rhetoric political, ignorant, floral, passe,
Or expect they place you last, lame, fake.

Goodbye old friend, you've served me well;
you did your job throughout this hell.
Exhausted - now you're lying here;
within your eyes I see the fear.

My pal is calling...let him go,
he'll never learn, he'll never know
how dire it is to lose a friend,
but I'll stay with you to the end.

And if the Hun should come before
you've breathed your last in this damn war,
then, so be it, I'll die with you,
for loyal friends must see it through

until the end, when we'll be seen
as one - once more on England's green
and pleasant land for which we fought,
to plough God's fields as we were taught.

I hear the bullets whizzing by,
the screaming men, the battle cry.
You lift your head to shield my heart,
and bullets tear your neck apart.

I hold you tight with bloodied hand,
I try to rise, I try to stand.
I feel the shrapnel from the shell--
Goodbye old friend, you served me well.

Blue Beyond The Grey

I sit and wander as I wonder what will the rest of the gloomy, yet blue beyond the grey may bring my way.
I hope to be like the eagle with fully spread wings.
And with rain, hail, snow or earth quake I'm ready to challenge what challenges the day brings.
And I think she might like me today.
And tomorrows mystery will be the adventure of it's time.
The things I must endure others have endured by my many mishaps for over 30 years.
So I'll be patient as I sit here and wander,
wondering what the rest of today's gloomy,
yet blue beyond the grey, will bring my way.

Dangerous Soul-life...

Free to be ME
Poetic Universe

I seee you are designing a fallen fatality for me,
a generational king with a heavenly line of royalty,
a legacy that born in me.
And in that you must have seen in my predetermined destiny.
Now I see clearly what you must have already seen and that's why you can't be truthful shaitan my frienemy?
And the lies you tell to swell the minds of those in power,
those who seek to devour, me me me And yes in deed it is all about me,
selfish recovery.
I'm on the plane and I need the mask to save myself first then Amiri,
my born leader, ruler, prince, and future KING!
My first and only biological seed.
The boy in the mirror is reflecting me.
When I was five I began to die and now that I've risen they still ask the age old question why,
because I lied first and the result was others took advantage.
Now I'm again in love, but this time it's with me myself and I.
The man's reflection when I stand at the edge of flowing streams,
tells me that this man is ok and he loves what he sees,
Looking back so calmly without the use of nicotine,
intoxicating drinks or weed, medicinally or recreationally.

Yes I'm free I'm free I'm free to be to be ME.

Poetic Universe.

Soul filling everything,
You emerge from all,
Thus filling my soul.

Earth is mine mazily,
Will you leave me here, dying?
Between the shallows and the sky.

Nights gallop passing me,
Birds peck out the stars,
Thus we fall so far apart.

Crystal moon, it waits in peace,
Softly as mine eyes take autumn,
No crystal flakes that taste the breeze,
No barcarolle to be sung solemn,

Casting nets emphatically,
Thrashed by your oceanic eyes,
Thus reprising my demise.

I create when I embosom keys,
Muster up thoughts I pull from,
Throwing mine out to the wind,
Zephyrus mine soul in tandem.

Soul filling everything,
You emerge from all,
Thus tearing me apart.

No glance, only mention of Descartes,
Reference is lost in the moment,
Youth culture stole musical art,
Changed preference to non-impotent.
Where is left for the lost artist?
No venue for the middle aged artisans,
So it seems in bed, as the allegorist,
All hurt for the chorus of musicians,
However bedrooms are the preferred court.
Aptly put nobody pays cash anymore,
And some end up overpaid in sport,
Wailing are the preferred poor,
However, nobody screams out of valor,
So everybody must scream out in squalor.

Empty Silence tops a rattle of chain,
A whores horse then tries to evade.
To no avail, assailants fear no pain.
Those that must then ply their trade.
Grasping flail, to no avail legitimate,
For none is literate in God.
Often assumption made inconsiderate,
For law cares not if grass is sod.
That said, what lies here is often not.
Opinion tends to be but a clod tempest,
Consensus leaning toward an insane plot,
Mass opine religion of uneducated priest.

Green reds now shake with blue collars.
Only masons of insured welfare collard'.

No wave easily embraces a shore,
Yet broken it finds solace soars.
Beyond is sea, pale godless,
No effect easily saves scores.
Yet a violin plays of the whore,
Upon the pier, praying for goddesses.
A boat launches without birth mother,
Father never sees need for guidances,
Tragedy is compassions' like brother,
Yet time must pass or we tarnish each other.

My tragedy at sea was like no other:
I believed in no Poseidon of fate.
So I found no place safe to wallow,
Waves endlessly chased my starboard,
Port too was nothing but ocean onward,
So I trumpet ironic prayers for rain,
Anything to wash away my shameful act.
